Junior Coaching

The coaching programme at Irvinestown is comprehensive and caters for all age groups and abilities from 4 years old to 18 years old.


It is categorized into Mini Tennis Sessions, Junior Squads, Coaching, Summer Camps & free tennis sessions. The calendar is available to download on this page.


All programmes are aligned to the Tennis Ireland Long Term Athlete Development Pathway. 


The coaching programme is led by Tennis Ireland Level 2 Coach, John Maguire and Level 1 Coaches, Marty Garrity and Maggie Britton. They all offer a range of skills and activities to our Junior members. 


Coaching for younger players can be indoors or on our astro turf courts, weather permitting. The coaching programme is inclusive and is open to boys and girls as well as those with disabilities.

Irvinestown Tennis Club is only one of six tennis clubs in Northern Ireland with the Sport NI Clubmark accredited status from Ulster Tennis.

There was lots of activity for our junior members this week. The Easter Camp tok place with over 20 young children enjoying the Tennis and social fun with Marty, Frances and Grace.


 Ryan, Conan and Angelina took part in the Tyrone Championships with the boys winning the U 18 dbls and Conan Runner up in Singles


Kyran took part in the Templeougue Junior Championships reaching Main Draw in singles and Runner up in the U 18 doubles with good friend Rory Cunningham from Harwenden TC


Summer 2016 Activities- U10 Mini Tennis Day


Irvinestown tennis club recently hosted its U10 mini tennis day sponsored by The Pill Box pharmacy in Irvinestown. Over 20 competitors took part in the Morning play with Under 8 ,9 & 10 events taking place
As well as the host club the junior members from Enniskillen TC ,Omagh TC and Butt Hall from ballybofey took part . 

In the U 10s Top boy was Rory Smyth with Ace Rodriguez 2nd and Aiobhean King top Girl

The club committee and helpers thanked their Sponsor ,the Parents and Coaches of the local clubs for the big effort they made to encourage the players to play the event .

Thanks to Laura Mc Dowell , Martin Garrity , France's Taggert ,Kyran Maguire , & Ciaran Daly for all their efforts on the day making it a enjoyable playing experience for the children.



Summer league has finished, well done to all who participated. Congratulations to Justin Smith, Under 10 winner and Angelina Gcado, runner-up. Presentation this Friday 24th June at the fun and games evening 6pm in the Pavilion.

Fermanagh Open Junior Tennis Championships (August 2015)

 

Irvinestown Tennis Club last week hosted the Fermanagh open junior tennis championships sponsored by Lakeland Leisure , Pill Box and ASC Security Systems. Players from all the local clubs plus Monkstown Dublin, Butthall, Letterkenny, Lurgan, David Lloyd Belfast, Cavan, City of Derry and Portadown took part in the championships with Finals day on Saturday.

 

Singles Events
The most entertaining final on the day came in the U -16 boys singles were Home Member Kyran Maguire Irvinestown defeated David Keane Monkstown 6/4 6/7 6/4 in a battle of long rallies and hard hitting groundstrokes, with Kyran eventually with strong mental willpower serving out the match to claim another Fermanagh title.

 

The U18 Girls saw Enniskillen members Laura Griffin and Eimear Smyth contest the final match in a round robin event , the first set was evenly matched as both players gave their all and played with great intensity ,eventually Laura took the first 7/5 . In the second Laura took the inititive really early as she broke serve and raced away to win the match 6/1 ,Kathy Bannigan from Butt Hall also contested this event. The U18 boys again a round robin event with 4 boys contesting was won by Jack Gannon Monkstown with Omagh player Cormac Coney finishing r-up with a few good wins over Thomas Muldoon Lurgan and Gray Kelly Monkstown.

 

In the U14 events the Girls final was contested between the Griffin sisters Amy and Ciara from Enniskillen ,Ciara having beaten the no 1 seed in the semi final found older sister in fine form in the final as Amy won 6/2 6/0 and went on to achieve a treble of titles during the day. In the boys event Ciaran Daly from Irvinestown played well to reach the final but lost out to an impressive display from Michael Hatrick City of Derry 6/2 6/0.

 

Not to be outdone by his bigger brother, Andrew Hatrick won the U12 boys event when he beat Fionnbharr Taggert Omagh 6/3 6/1 with both boys playing some really good tennis throughout the tournament. In the Girls U12 singles final No 2 seed Eve Callaghan from Enniskillen defeated Bronagh Smyth Enniskillen 6/0 6/1 with both girls playing some fine tennis ,indeed for Bronagh it was a good week as she beat the No 1 Seed from Belfast to reach the final.

 

In the Novice singles 3 Girls from Irvinestown took part Sara Murray , Molly Rodgers and Mellissa Andrassak in Round Robin event with Mellissa winning while the boys event saw Lurgan Brothers Jamie and Jason Henry reach the Final with Jamie winning 6/0 6/4

After all the finals the presentation of awards took place Junior Co-ordinator Sinead Maguire thanked all the Players for taking part in the event, the parents for support of the event, to the Bawnacre Centre and staff for all the catering and facilities, the Tournament committee for the organising all week and especially to Billy Nevin, Frances Taggert, David Mc Dowell and tournament Director Laura Mc Dowell. Lastly to the Sponsors Catherine Taggert Lakeland Leisure, Neil Mc Connell Pill Box, Anthony Mc Caughey ASC Security Systems and to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council for their continued support of the event.
